In January 2015 Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream sadly “changed his cosmic address”. In wise foresight he gave his wife, Bianca Froese-Acquaye, his blessing to continue with the band project in order to realize his last musical vision of the so-called QUANTUM YEARS. It was a fascinating challenge for Edgar to translate the newest scientific knowledge of quantum physics and philosophy into musical sounds.
In honour of their personal hero, Edgar Froese, Tangerine Dream are looking forward to performing their musical portfolio – both old and new , well-known classics and still unknown new tracks – to their audience at SCHWINGUNGEN FESTIVAL 2016 in Windeck (close to Cologne/Bonn) on Saturday, 3rd September.
Edgar already started this new period with a concert series in Australia in November 2014 by forming a new band line-up with Ulrich Schnauss, Thorsten Quaeschning and Hoshiko Yamane and him. At the same time all acoustic instruments once again were banned like in the 70ies to concentrate on pure electronic sounds. Of course it was no coincidence that Edgar welcomed London-based Ulrich Schnauss as a new band member alongside his longtime and highly esteemed band colleague and composer Thorsten Quaeschning, as both, Ulrich and Edgar, always followed their careers with great interest for years and enjoying an equally long friendship. Hoshiko Yamane, already a member of TD since 2011, is adding that special sparkle to the music by playing her very own virtuoso way of electric violin and electronic beats .
The results of this new formation speak for themselves: QUANTUM KEY – the first EP release of the new period after Edgar Froese’s death – has already delighted lovers of electronic music and TD fans, they barely can’t await the full album release of QUANTUM GATE in 2016, which the band is currently working on intensively. Both albums base on a part of Edgar’s compositions, which he already began and which the band now refined into that new creative and experimental-orientated direction of a modern electronic symphonic sound.
