As a fan and supporter of the New Age music term, I truly understand what Yanni means – just like I also have a lot of sympathy for Fiona Joy’s recent confrontation with the “New Age music stigma”. – or Enya’s longtime resentment of the term. It is not easy being labeled as a New Age music artist if you don’t embrace New Age as a whole – like Terry Oldfield, Suzanne Doucet or Paul Horn.
This is why contemporary instrumental is a much better term for a lot of artists, but it is not likely to catch on any time soon…
