On 22 February Will Ackerman will hold a concert at Historic Makawao Union Church, 1445 Baldwin Ave; Hawaii. The concert is called “The Gathering” and will begin at 7 p.m. Here is a presentation from the producers:
Will Ackerman, Grammy Award winner, founder of Windham Hill Records and Imaginary Roads Studio, songwriter, composer and producer, will come to Maui with Todd Boston to perform, inspire and share their tapestry of songs and musicianship with totally new music for our generation–unparalleled and inaccessible to public audiences anywhere–until now.
Ackerman, an internationally acclaimed American guitarist and composer of acoustic-based instrumental music, has received more than 20 gold and platinum record sales awards. His “Returning” CD won a Grammy Award in 2005. “The Sound of Wind Driving Rain” and “Hearing Voices” were Grammy nominees. His recent compilation, “The Gathering,” produced in his studio in Vermont, earned the ZMR 2012 Album of the Year.
He received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ZMR Awards Ceremony last year.
Ackerman has performed at some of the greatest venues throughout the world, including The Imperial Palace in Tokyo, The Kremlin in Russia, The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Carnegie Hall in New York, The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, Ravinia Festival in Chicago and Wolf Trap for the Performing Arts near Washington, D.C.
His Windham Hill Records singlehandedly created what we came to know in the mid-80s as New Age Music.
Boston returns to Maui with the success of his latest release, “Touched by the Sun,” ZMR’s 2012 Best Instrumental Album – Instrumental. The San Francisco-based guitarist/multi-instrumentalist and composer brings with him a devoted heart to connect, share and enrich the lives of those he touches through the positive effects of music, sound and vibration. He has been touring the globe with Snatam Kaur for the past three years, including a memorable visit with Oprah on Maui in 2012.
Advance tickets are $20 (cash only), available at MacNet in Kahului, Maui Kombucha in Ha’iku and Island Spirit Yoga in Lahaina. Tickets will be $30 at the door.
