“Diwali” is the name of Guy Sweens’ new album. Diwali is the Festival of Lights, which is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism and usually lasts for five days. It is also celebrated by Jains and Sikhs and some Buddhists.

“On the third day the height of the festival is celebrated. It is coinciding with the darkest night of the lunar month,” explains Guy Sweens. “During the festival, the people illuminate their homes, temples and work spaces with diyas, which are candles and lanterns. People have a ritual oil bath at dawn on each day of the festival and also enjoy fireworks and sweets. Hindus celebrate the return of deities Rama and Sita to Ayodhya after their 14-year exile.”

Enjoy track 5, “Eternal Bliss”:

“They also celebrate the day Mother Goddess Durga destroyed a demon called Mahisha. Sikhs particularly celebrate the release from prison of the sixth guru Hargobind Singh in 1619. Jains celebrate the moment that Lord Mahavira reached a state called Moksha (eternal bliss),” concludes Guy Sweens.
