On 12 April 2019 Australian electronic musician and composer, Jim Ottaway, officially releases his new ambient album… BEYOND THE PURPLE SUN.
BEYOND THE PURPLE SUN is Jim’s 13th international release.
Jim says that BEYOND THE PURPLE SUN is a continuation of his series of ‘space’ ambient releases including DEEP SPACE BLUE, SOUTHERN CROSS, ORION, CENTAURI, AURORA and LIQUID MOON. The album is made up of seven tracks all representing aspects of a space journey beyond the purple sun. Jim’s goal is to take the listener on a journey to the far reaches of the universe, to learn the secrets of the hidden stars, to pass through majestic celestial rainbows, to view some beautiful lavender moons, to feel the raw energy of space lightning and to witness the birth of a quasar.
Jim explains that he compiled this album from tracks recorded as early as October 2010 and wrapped up recording and production in February 2019. The album liner notes indicate that “All tracks are live improvised studio recordings with minimal overdubs”… a recording technique, Jim says, he has used for all his ambient albums.
Jim composed and recorded all tracks on BEYOND THE PURPLE SUN at his Gold Coast, Australia home studio which is situated at the foothills of the beautiful Springbrook Mountain.
All of Jim’s last five albums… YESTERDAY PASSING, DEEP SPACE BLUE, TIMELESS e-MOTION, SOUTHERN CROSS and INVISIBLE VORTEX received nominations in world-wide music awards. Jim says that he was extremely excited and honoured to be awarded Zone Music Reporter Awards in New Orleans last year for his albums DEEP SPACE BLUE (Best Ambient Album) and TIMELESS e-MOTION (Best Electronic Album). Jim is hoping that BEYOND THE PURPLE SUN will also strike a chord with listeners and radio programmers.
