Music has the ability to describe nature in fascinating ways. Simply by listening, beautiful tableaus manifest themselves before our inner eye. In this post, I will present two singles by Mark Werlein that show the magical connection between nature and New Age music – and how the listener can enjoy a “walk” in majestic nature without even going outside. If anything, it makes quarantine life and similar situations easier.
Mark Werlein is a composer offering services to film, TV, and advertisements. His most recent albums are La Famiglia (2020) and Tenderly and Other Thoughts (2017). The latter is the most New Age-y of Werlein’s releases – plus the two below singles, released in 2020.
Blue Ridge Grandeur
Just like a trip to the real Blue Ride, Blue Ridge Grandeur is a musical voyage in different parts. It starts carefully, slowly building momentum with light percussion. Then we hear a friendly sounding piano before a sharp synth flute cuts through the air. The melody is breathtakingly beautiful, making the listener feel one with nature. I very much like the strings in the background too.
Azure Skies has a joyous feel from the very first moment! The electric guitar has a nice 1960s feel to it. Suddenly a violin is heard, giving the piece a playful atmosphere – before the electric guitar is back center stage. Fans of Country music, who also have a love for New Age, will feel right at home. In conclusion: Blue Ridge Grandeur and Azure Skies by Mark Werlein are two incredibly well-made and beautiful singles. It is very hard to capture the beauty of nature in all its nuances, but Werlein manages to do just that. The singles inspire the listener to check out other music by this fine artist.
