While this is not “literally” acoustic guitarist Randal L Meek’s first release (that would be 2018’s Life on the Deck), one cannot help but be mightily impressed at the sheer artistry displayed by the fingerstyle guitarist throughout Longings entirety.

Each composition highlights qualities that one more usually associates with seasoned veterans in the instrumental music field. The thirteen tracks flow with a gentle reflective motif, each one carefully crafted with care (bolstered by the production team of WillAckerman/Tom Eaton) and suffused with Meek’s sensitive playing, nuanced control of every note, and a pure intimate aesthetic. A masterpiece of understated emotions, the album is the perfect soundtrack for daydreaming, relaxation, and drives through rural landscapes, be they farmland, prairie, or forest.
Joining Meek are a few artists who frequently contribute to Imaginary Road productions, including violinist Charlie Bisharat, cellist Eugene Friesen, and vocalist Noah Wilding, as well as Ackerman on acoustic guitar and Eaton on piano and bass. Their combined efforts reap substantial benefits when they appear, but it’s Meek’s exquisite guitar playing that makes this a must-have for guitar music fans.
