Rettward von Doernberg is a formally trained composer, currently living and working in Berlin, Germany. With »Be Water« he now releases a jaunty piece of instrumental New Age music that seamlessly combines pop, opera, ambient electronica, big band and Baroque while at the same time never ceasing to surprise.

„»Be Water« was born out of the desire to create a truly exuberant piece of music“, explains von Doernberg. „At the same time, I wanted it to seamlessly integrate a series of diverse ensembles and styles. I was also aiming for a piece that wouldn’t be too short, and would continue to offer new surprises instead of coming to an end.“

Since April the 14th 2016 the short version of »Be Water« is available in online music stores and at streaming services such as iTunes, Spotify and Amazon – however, only for a limited time.

Von Doernberg reserves a much longer version of »Be Water« for members of his website „Aboard The Caravel“.

„Composing feels to me a bit like discovering new continents and every new piece is an opportunity for me to learn and to improve. At the same time I like to share what I discover. That’s why I created ‚The Caravel‘“.

„Aboard The Caravel“, named after Christopher Columbus’ ship, is a website dedicated to Rettward von Doernberg’s music, as well as to sharing secrets of composition not easily found elsewhere.

The membership fee is currently 140 euros for the first year, then 110 euros for every following year. New members are invited by existing members.

Von Doernbergs has many years of experience creating music for all kinds of media. His works have been featured on TV, radio, stage and in computer games.

He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) under acclaimed film composers and Academy Award winners such as James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri and Hans Zimmer.

His most recent project for the cinema, the animated short “Manic Moondays” by Martin Schiffter, has been shown both on television and at film festivals around the world, where it has won several awards.
