Nan Davies, known professionally as Svara, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has written, performed, arranged, produced and engineered her new self-titled album SVARA. The album was co-produced by guitar virtuoso and recording artist Joaquin Lievano, a former Jean-Luc Ponty band member and established New Age artist (solo albums, Zazen, Yanni, Steve Kindler etc.).
The inspiration for the album SVARA took place in the bucolic southern California oasis of Ojai, CA. Svara longed for the serenity of nature and to return to her native California after living in the New York City area. In Ojai, surrounded by citrus orchards and mountain vistas, she drank in the quiet beauty of the location. Feeling at peace, joyful and inspired she began work in her studio, writing and recording the 4 vocal songs and 6 instrumentals on the album. The result is flowing synthesizers, soaring electric guitars, mystical vocals and earthy rhythms that express the awe and wonder of life and nature. As a life-long meditator, Svara has realized her musical calling: “We can be at one with beauty everywhere if we are still, silent, look and listen.”
Born into a musical family and raised in the San Francisco area, Svara began piano lessons at age 5, guitar at age 12, voice at age 13 and composed her first piano piece at age 10. She later studied music and art at university while continuing to write songs and perform as a duo with her guitarist brother. Svara went on to perform with numerous bands in various genres – pop, rock, folk, country, bluegrass, jazz and most notably with guitarist Joaquin Lievano, bassist Andy West (Dixie Dregs) and violinist Steve Kindler (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jeff Beck).
