On Saturday 25 February 2023 the 15th Annual Schallwelle German Electronic Music Awards were announced at a live ceremony in Kolpinghaus Bochum-Wattenscheid, Germany. Jim Ottaway was awarded the Schallwelle Award in the ‘Der eigene Weg’ (Your Own Way) category, i.e. independent musicians.
“It is a great honour for me to be recognised in this way,” says Jim. “Germany has always been known as the electronic music capital of the world.” It is also special because many of my musical heroes, such as Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Jean-Michel Jarre and Johannes Schmoelling were also nominated in other categories this year. Unfortunately, I was unable to travel to Germany to attend the awards ceremony.
Jim Ottaway is the first Australian to be nominated and to win a Schallwelle Award.
