San Francisco Chronicle has interviewed Kitaro in connection with his 17th Grammy nomination. “A Grammy nomination is never a target or stated goal for me, so to be nominated 17 times is so gratifying,” Kitaro says.
The interview by Aidin Vaziri goes like this:
“Kitaro has attended enough Grammy Awards ceremonies to remember a time when they didn’t take place in basketball arenas.
“If you remember, many years ago, the Grammy Awards were not like they are now,” said the celebrated Japanese New Age composer and recording artist, who for the past decade has called Sebastopol home, as he was preparing this week to travel to New York City. “They were more like the Golden Globes, intimate, with artists simply gathering to support each other.
When the 60th annual Grammy Awards take place at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Jan. 28, it will be anything but a low-key affair.”
