Sherry Finzer and Darin Mahoney – Transformation review

transformationIsn’t it fascinating how music and memories are connected? Music can make you remember and take you back in time, simply by listening. For artists music is a medium they can use to tell a story, with or without lyrics. The album Transformation by Sherry Finzer and Darin Mahoney is about remembering and learning from past experiences. It is filled with beautiful songs that speak both to the heart and soul. I was not surprised when this album recently won the One World Music Best Album of 2013 Award.

Some of the most emotional songs ever recorded are about memories. Both good and bad memories can be a source of knowledge. Flutist Sherry Finzer and guitarist Darin Mahoney find inspiration in their own lives when they create music. On Sherryfinzer.com you can read about each track.

A wonderful sound

Even though the album is inspired by real-life hardships (like cancer), Transformation it is not dark and depressing. Both the guitar and the flute have a bright and hopeful sound. You can both hear and sense the life forces that are battling against both sickness and doubts. This makes Transformation into a therapeutic album.

I very much like the way the guitar is recorded. The sound of the strings is wonderful and very precise. The flute is mostly in the background, where it backs up the guitar and adds vibrant colors.

Transformation is one of those albums that make you feel both stronger and wiser. It is great both as background music and for active listening. Highly recommended!
