Michelle Qureshi – Lineage

534

Inspired by the triple goddess energy of maiden-mother-crone and how it relates to her own life, award-winning guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Michelle Qureshi releases her new album, “Lineage.” Perhaps one of her most personal, poignant, and important works, the eight tracks and twenty-two minutes that comprises “Lineage” speak volumes through the heartstrings of Michelle’s guitar.

The sequence of the track titles aligns with both Michelle’s roles in her lineage: As a caretaker at the end of life for her mother and later as a mom so in love with the baby girl who chose Michelle to be her mother in this lifetime.

Through this music, Michelle sought to capture that sweet and powerful flow of love that exists between her daughter and her as well as that which flowed to and from her late mother. And then she sought to also capture that gentle flow cycling back to Earth to Michelle and her daughter.

The purposefully suspended space between the notes, along with the guitar lines layered softly like silk scarves, elicit the emotions that open our hearts as we say a necessary goodbye to one so loved. And then years later when that same grieving heart is overfilled with the joy and love from bringing a daughter into this world… all this emotion Michelle expresses through music with this musical offering.

From “Days So Long” to “This Shade of Love“ and “Time to Let Go,” the sentiments echo both dual roles in Michelle’s life. The final piece on this album, “Rest Now,“ was created with three voices, ukulele, guitar, and an octave lower guitar. This final piece serves both as a lullaby to her daughter at day’s end and as a final emotional goodbye to her beloved mother.

BT Fasmer’s comment:“Lineage’s” structure mirrors the artist’s own life journey, with tracks that reflect her role as a caretaker for her dying mother and her subsequent experience of motherhood. The album is not just a collection of melodies, but a meditation on the interconnectedness of generations. I find it to be a deeply moving album. A must.
