Osmunda Music – Sending My Love Review

1455

It is hard to believe in peace when there is so much negativity everywhere. But one thing seems certain: we are not that grateful for the love that is already here – and we don’t realize that this love may be the foundation for a kinder and more loving world-order. Thankfully, Osmunda Music comes to our rescue with “Sending My Love”. It is one of the finest collections of New Age pop in years. The love Osmunda Music sends out is both inspirational and possibly life-changing. It is a love you want to receive.

Rebecca Trujillo Vest began singing and playing guitar in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the early 1970s as a young girl. She moved to Los Angeles in the mid 90’s. Along with her husband Michael Vest, she started the band Space Babies. They recruited John X Volaitis to help produce their studio albums, which includes “Space Babies” (2009), “Spaceport” (2018) and “The Space Babies Show: A Song in a Day” (2018). Two Osmunda Music albums were released in 2019, “Munda” and “Love Will Overcome” – both to critical acclaim.

Breathe
One of the things I like the best about Osmunda Music is the fact that their melodies and arrangements are not overly sweet. No, their soundscape is exciting and colorful, illustrating the many challenges on the road to peace and global unity. There are no illusions here that this is easy. “Breathe” is the upbeat “Sending My Love” album opener. I know for a fact that the history of the world would have looked very different (and better!) if people had taken the time to “breathe in and breathe out” before rushing to action. “Breathe” is a gorgeous pop song with a hint of chill, making us relax from the very first note. But don’t take my word for it. Check it out above!

Next out is “Golden Light”. Center stage is the sensation of love and how it makes you feel surrounded, illuminated by golden light. The steely guitar riffs are beautiful, backed by lovely layers of synth and textures.

A Loving World
One of the finest songs on the album is “A Loving World”. There is life-changing power in believing that people are good at heart – especially since we are bombarded with news telling the opposite. That is why the song starts with “Let’s talk about peace, believe in peace.” and that the road to positive change is to trust in human nature. “A Loving World” is a well-made pop song with broad appeal, and Vest’s vocal is impressive.

“Grateful” is a welcome reminder that we should fill our hearts every day with gratefulness. It can be a challenge, especially in times of rapid change like the one we have at the moment, but it is necessary – and healthy too! “Grateful” is a gorgeous song with very lovely synths and a laid-back rhythm. Its uncomplicated vibe makes sure that the message is easy to pick up. Each of these songs is more inspiring than most self-help books.

Today Brings
Making plans is great, but real change starts today. “Today Brings” tells about the importance of kindness. Again, I’m amazed by the quality of the arrangements and the many layers of effects. Vest’s vocal is mixed to perfection. It gets more personal with “I Believe”. It is a well-made pop song. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself humming the “I believe in myself” theme.

My favorite song on the album is “Peace Inside”. Notice the icy synth chords, and how the “I’m alive” is almost like a scream. Then there is a shift in the atmosphere when we get an “answer” to the “I’m alive”, which is “You are compassion, you are life”. I love how Osmunda Music deals with these opposites; It makes us see that inner peace (which brings outer peace) is not easy. But by saying it, you are making it into a reality.

Shine Our Love
This part of the album is all about love! “Shine Our Love” is a positive and upbeat pop song with hit potential. I also like how Osmunda Music deals with creative work in “Create for Love”. When you make something, you have a responsibility that it will make the world a better place – not just sell or promote yourself.

“Be My Greatest Self” is a song that we all should listen to, every day. It is something to live up to. Another favorite of mine is “I Am the Sun”, which, for some reason, is a bit hidden this late on the album. It has a mesmerizing melody and inspiring lyrics. It makes me think of Sally Oldfield’s classic “Samurai of the Sun”. It is that good. “Be Here Now” is another winner. It is sublime, from the guitar in the intro to the fantastic vocal work in the end, before the title track once again makes us feel gratitude for how the people behind Osmunda Music have poured their heart and soul into this inspired recording.

In conclusion: We live in a society where it is so easy to discredit good intentions, especially when it comes to the concepts of “peace and love”. But this cynicism makes it hard to embrace the idea of a better and more loving world. This is why “Sending My Love” by Osmunda Music is essential. By talking about it, saying it, thinking it, we make small but important changes. If everyone did it for five minutes each day, in two weeks, the result would have been as stated wonderfully at the end of “Sending My Love”: “We are one, beautiful friends.”
